Chair Caning, Restoration and Repair

Tarleton State University's Langdon Center

Each class is composed of four two-hour Chair Caning, Restoration and Repair sessions. The class is offered through Tarleton State University's Langdon Center Campus, east of the Square in Granbury, Texas. Classes are scheduled for July 22,29, Aug 5, and 12, 2004 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The course fee is $30, plus materials, which generally cost about $10 to $20. The Chair Caner's Handbook, available from most bookstores. Also, check amazon.com and other book on-line sources.  It is a wonderful reference.

Instructor Phil Delucchi has been practicing Caning Chairs since 1985. He attended a similar course at Tarrant Community College. Students are guided through the process and given hands-on experience. The class includes all types of Chair and other furniture restoration and Repair. Hand Caning, Machine Caning, Splint, and Rush are the most common materials used. It is recommended that the chairs be refinished prior to the class. Minor touch-up and gluing techniques are also included.
